August 20th marked International Geocaching Day, and the annual Block Party in Fremont, WA – near the Geocaching.com headquarters. Visitors from all over the world came to meet with Groundspeak Lackeys, enjoy the fun events and mingle with other geocaching fanatics. Signal the Frog made an appearance despite the summer heat and company founders took a splashing in the dunk tank. A geocaching course was set-up around the area to encourage visitors to see the area and earn a prized geocoin puzzle.

In August 2011, I attended Outdoor Retailer Summer Market trade show conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was my first trip to Utah and it was great to meet with so many big name retailers and meet representatives from National Parks. The first day of the show was held off-site at a lake where visitors could test out kayaks, canoes, and other summer time equipment. Magellan set up a nice geocaching course for people to try – it had a mix of easy and difficult caches.

Seeing all the outdoor gear made me want to return for the Winter Market to try out the winter ski equipment!
