Archive for June, 2011

June 25th marked my 9th completed half marathon in Brooks Adrenaline shoes! The Seattle Rock n Roll Half Marathon is a course I know well from previous runs. The course is a near-straight shot from Tukwila to Seattle. This time I ran with my friend Marnie. It was her first half marathon and she participated as a fundraiser for cancer research. The finish time was one of my slowest at 2:26:45, but it was worth it to run with a friend on her first race.

The course for 2012 will be a loop course in Seattle – a nice change!

Seth Godin Live in Seattle” –  On June 24th, I was fortunate enough to join the half day seminar hosted by Seth Godin at Seattle’s ACT Theatre. It was his first Seattle tour and the house was packed. He advocates a revised system in which students are taught to think critically and challenge norms, rather than to conform to standards of “success” and standardized test that result in unnatural and uninteresting conformity. You can enjoy his insights on a regular basis through his insightful blog.

REI Camp-Us Day

On June 8th, I attended the REI Camp-Us Day at the outdoor retailer’s Kent, WA headquarters. Camp-Us Day is an REI employee appreciation day and a chance for vendors to display products and give special offers and games to staff members. We were there to share the experience of geocaching. A GPS manufacturer had helped arrange for geocaches to be hidden, and staff could borrow a GPS device. We showcased a series of creative cache types for people to learn about and engage with. Other vendors set up camping tents and relay races. Other than the Seattle rain, it was a fun event!

What an adventure! On June 3rd, I set-up shop at the Wild Canyon Games in Antelope, Oregon (a Very remote area!) to support the Games on behalf of Geocaching.com, alongside other fundraising sponsors, like Nike. Wild Canyon Games is a weekend-long multi-sport event in which teams of 7 compete to win. The race events include a triathlon, zip line, and massive geocaching course. Check out the Wild Canyon Games web site to see the amazing event photos! Several charitable organizations benefit from the Games.
